It’s been a long time coming. 11 years ago I graduated from art school and launched my website and social media presence. Considering I did not keep up with blogs or social media after 2004, I knew next to nothing and depended on sites like WIX and Tumblr to get me going.
I stuck with WIX for the past decade but every year I found m yself increasingly frusterated with what it offered and how my site was beginning to look like. I appreciate some things, such as ease and members access for me to host The Reading Room. But my footer is stuck where it is and there is no changing it, the site started to become a cluster, and that’s a shame because many years ago I had a beautiful, visually driven site that I think really gave people an idea of what I made and who I was.
It was in these last few months, thanks to the economy and political events, that I decided I really needed to leave them behind and start over.
I needed to be able to show my academic work, my Fine Art practice, education, decentralized social media consultation work, DJ, etc…all in one house. So thanks to my beautiful friend Leni, we got boricua.style as a placeholder and I started to redesign everything. I made another bright colorful mess BUT to be fair….I needed to figure out exactly what this next phase is.
“The Femme that Fell to Earth”
Part Bowie inspo, part PhD research inspo–This is where I am at. This site is still getting worked on, for me there is a lot more to do:
A shop needs creation.
Photos need alt text.
General accessibility needs to be assessed.
Clearer navigation.
Some more visual design elements that I think really express who I am as an artist.
More beach images! New music.
For now, this will do. This feels like a new home.
